The South Haven Speakers Series has announced the lineup for its eleventh season, getting started in April.

Series President Elaine Stephens tells us the Speaker Series has been a success since its inception, bringing experts on a variety of topics to the community and attracting crowds that average between 100 to 175 people per engagement. She says when choosing speakers to invite, the board first discusses which issues are the most important to the region at the moment.

And our top one this year was nuclear power, especially with the proposed reopening of Palisades,” Stephens said. “That was the one that was our top choice.”

For the April 10 engagement, the South Haven Speaker Series has booked Max Vanatta, a University of Michigan graduate engineering student who has authored a comprehensive research paper on nuclear power.

I think he’s specifically going to talk about what SMRs mean. I think to the general public, that’s quite an unknown, small modular reactors. Okay, so what are those? He’s going to talk about benefits and risks.”

Stephens says other topics for this season of the South Haven Speaker Series will be big money in college sports, immigration, and the economy. The series will run this year through October. You can find the fill schedule right here.

Stephens says attendance for each engagement is $10 for the public and free for students. The events will all be held at the Lake Michigan College South Haven campus.
