Recall petition language against Benton Harbor Mayor Marcus Muhammad and City Commissioner SaTanna Warren has been rejected by the Berrien County Election Commission.
The Berrien County Clerk’s office tells us the commission held a hearing on Wednesday and determined the petition language was unclear. The reason is the misspelling of names throughout the documents. The petitions were filed on February 10 and stated Muhammad and Warren should be recalled for voting to appoint Alex Little as city manager. In the petitions, both Muhammad’s and Little’s names were spelled incorrectly. Warren’s title was also misidentified.
The petitioners, Tommie Earl Jackson and Gershon Clay, can try again.
Meanwhile, the clerk’s office tells us a clarity hearing on petition language filed against City Commissioners Sharon Henderson and Edward Isom is set for March 7.
