Two luxury cruise lines will be expanding across the Great Lakes.
Victory Cruise Lines and Ponant have joined Cruise the Great Lakes. It’s a firm that organizes different port stops along the Great Lakes journey.
John Schmidt is from the Great Lakes St. Lawrence’s Governors and Premiers Conference and says sometimes the cruises start here and travel much further out.
“Viking, for example, they have a cruise that goes from Milwaukee to Wisconsin to to Valparaiso, Chile that’s something like four or five six months,” Schmidt said. “Who would think you’re getting on the ship in Milwaukee and you’re gonna be in Chile several months later?”
In total, about eight cruise lines will be out on the Great Lakes at any given time, with an estimated 22,000 people sailing to different ports this summer, accounting for more than $230 million in a regional economic impact.
