The JoAnn Fabrics store in Benton Township is closing.
The closure is revealed in a JoAnn Fabrics bankruptcy recovery plan filed in federal court this week. The Benton Township location, at 1800 M-139, is among 33 Michigan stores slated to be shut down.
The news is a bit of a surprise locally, considering JoAnn just moved to its current Benton Township location from the Orchards Mall a few years ago. Wednesday’s revelation is a similar scenario to what happened with deep discounter Big Lots, which closed many stores that were seemingly successful as part of an effort to emerge from bankruptcy.
There’s no word on the exact timetable for the Benton Township JoAnn Fabrics shutdown. However, once revealed, such plans are usually executed quickly. Often a liquidator firm takes over and conducts a countdown-style going-out-of-business sale.
Other JoAnn Fabrics locations now set to close include the stores in Battle Creek and Michigan City, Indiana.
