Detroit will be featured in a new PBS Documentary series.

The first of a four-part series airs Tuesday night on PBS, documenting the move from the south to the north in the 1910s, most of them for jobs, like at Ford.

Ted Ryan, archives and heritage brand manager of Ford, said that in a way it’s come full circle because of the restoration of the Michigan Central Station.

The population of Detroit doubled between 1910 and 1920, and a lot of these workers were coming from the American South as part of the Great Migration,” Ryan said. “The first thing that they would have seen for those that traveled by train is this magnificent station that went through its disrepair, but has now been restored back to its glory.”

Episode one of the Great Migration airs Tuesday night on PBS.
