State Senator Aric Nesbitt has announced he’s running for governor.

Nesbitt, who is from the Lawton area, is currently the Minority Leader in the Michigan Senate and had been rumored as a possible candidate for governor for a few months. He tells us his campaign is all about putting Michigan first.

One that puts families first, one that puts workers first, and one that puts students first, and that’s something this campaign is all about because at the end of the day, Michiganders deserve so much better than what they’re getting from Lansing,” Nesbitt said.

Nesbitt was previously a state representative and the Michigan Lottery Commissioner. He tells us he wants to end the “woke agenda” in Lansing and work with the incoming Trump administration to improve the state.

I think the people of Michigan have been left behind under Democrat rule as they’ve raised taxes, wasted a $9 billion surplus, they’ve chosen politically-motivated crony capitalist handouts.”

Nesbitt says priorities include ending electric vehicle mandates, preserving parental rights, rejuvenating manufacturing, protecting the Second Amendment, banning sanctuary cities, and supporting police, working families, and students.

Nesbitt has two kids and one on the way. He tells us his decision to run was finalized last week when he asked his wife, “Are we doing this?” and she said, “Heck, yes.” He’ll be campaigning all over the state in the next year and a half to introduce himself to all Michiganders.

In a campaign announcement video, Nesbitt highlighted his roots on a sixth-generation family farm near Lawton, saying he’s just “a small-town farm boy.”
