Lake Michigan College is honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Day with its annual celebration week, running from January 20 to January 25.
This year’s theme, “Creating The Beloved Community,” invites everyone to engage in the various events, reflecting on Dr. King’s principles and fostering positive changes within the community.
LMC’s communications director Jennifer Shoemaker, shares insights on how these events unite the community.
“We really just hope that the community comes out, comes together, celebrates, sees what some of the amazing people in our community are doing for the community, and if they’re not already involved, get involved,” Shoemaker says.
The celebration kicks off on January 20 with a community gathering that will feature musical performances and the presentation of the Spirit of MLK Spotlight Awards.
The week long celebration will culminate on Saturday with an exciting basketball game where LMC team will face Kellogg Community College. This event will also celebrate the Spirit award recipients alongside the MLK festivities.
