A suspect is in police custody following the theft of a handgun in Van Buren County.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department says it executed a search warrant in the 65,000 block of County Road 376 in Bangor Township on Tuesday after taking the report of the stolen gun from a home in the 69,000 block of M-43.

The victim had video surveillance on his property and that helped identify the suspect. The stolen .45 caliber Springfield handgun was found in the search of the suspect’s home and that person was arrested and lodged at the Van Buren County Jail.

The suspect is now charged with larceny in a building, carrying a concealed weapon, being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition, and being a fugitive.

The sheriff’s department says the suspect has been cooperating. The person’s name has not been released.
