NFL – Bears interim coach Thomas Brown insists he’s focused on task at hand, not future
Thomas Brown insists he’s focused on the job at hand and not the one he might have down the line. His immediate task as the interim coach of the Chicago Bears is helping the team finish strong over the final five games, starting this weekend at San Francisco. The rest of his life can wait. Brown says he thinks “about just the moment.” The Bears fired a head coach for the first time during a season when they let Matt Eberflus go on Friday with a 4-8 record and the team in a six-game losing streak marked by head-scratching decisions.
NCAAFB – U-M flipped Underwood with help from Oracle’s Larry Ellison and Tom Brady
Bryce Underwood was relieved to make his commitment to Michigan official with his signature as signing day in college football kicked off on Wednesday. Underwood says it’s time for the next level. There are certainly levels to recruiting highly touted players in this era and Underwood made the most of his opportunities. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound quarterback played at Belleville High School and told LSU nearly a year ago that he intended to play there. Michigan never stopped pursuing him. He flipped after Oracle founder Larry Ellison and seven-time Super Bowl Tom Brady got involved in the recruitment.
NCAAFB – Big Ten Signing Day: Late flips push Oregon ahead of Ohio State and Michigan
Oregon started signing day behind Ohio State and Michigan in the Big Ten recruiting rankings and was poised to finish on top. The Ducks flipped five-star cornerback Na’eem Offord from the Buckeyes and four-star quarterback Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele from California. Those additions pushed them to No. 4 nationally and No. 1 in the Big Ten in the 247Sports Composite rankings. Quarterback Bryce Underwood, the No. 1 national recruit, signed his letter of intent with Michigan on Wednesday evening. Michigan’s NIL collective reportedly offered Underwood an eight-figure financial package and Tom Brady provided a strong nudge to get him to flip from LSU two weeks ago. Underwood is from Belleville, Michigan, less than a half-hour drive from Ann Arbor, and he has said playing close to home also was a factor. Underwood is the first No. 1 national prospect to land at Michigan since defensive end Rashan Gary in 2016.

Golf – LPGA, USGA to require players to be female at birth or transition before puberty
The LPGA and the USGA have updated gender policies that will require players to be assigned female at birth or to have transitioned to female before going through male puberty. The policies begin in 2025 and follow more than a year of study. The groups concluded that going through male puberty allows for competitive advantages in golf. The USGA has seven championships for females next year. The new policies rule out eligibility for Hailey Davidson. She missed U.S. Women’s Open qualifying by one shot this year and tried LPGA Q-school. Davidson began hormone treatments when she was in her early 20s in 2015 and in 2021 underwent gender-affirming surgery, which was required under the LPGA’s previous gender policy.
