Republican leaders held a press conference in Lansing this week to answer questions about a recently announced road funding plan. That’s as the GOP prepares to assume the majority in the Michigan House in January.
State Representative Donni Steele says the plan will divert funds from Michigan’s corporate income taxes.
“I’m just really excited about this plan,” Steele said. “I’ve been on the appropriations for two years and we have a shortage of the funding from the driveways to the highways and that is a promise that I would like to really fulfill and to do this without raising taxes. That’s what I’m so excited about this plan is being able to just do it by better budgeting. So that’s what I’m really excited about.”
Nearly $2 billion dollars would come from corporate taxes while another billion would come from the state gas tax.
