Tens of thousands of people sought help for substance abuse and alcohol abuse last year in Michigan.

Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Director Elizabeth Hertel says the department has introduced a mapping tool on its website to help people find treatment close to home.

We’ve also transitioned what we call our opioid health homes to substance use disorder health homes,” Hertel said. “So we’re adding treatment for people who do have alcohol use disorder or stimulant use disorder, and we’ve broadened our eligibility so that those services are covered by Medicaid.”

Hertel says that’s important because one of the biggest barriers to getting healthcare is not having insurance.
