Gobles High School is the winner of the Van Buren County Road Commission’s student plow painting contest.
We told you earlier this month the road commission invited high school art classes from around the county to paint plow blades with the theme of Community Pride. Road Commission Managing Director Bret Witkowski tells us the public was able to vote for their favorites, and the results came in Thursday.
“I mean, we’re absolutely amazed,” Witkowski said. “We had 2,000 votes and you could only vote once. They had a setup where it tracked your IP computer address, and because like a lot of things, people will try to vote three, four, five, whatever number of times. This one, you can only vote once. Gobles won that. I believe Paw Paw was second. Bangor was third.”
Witkowski says it was fun to see what the nine participating schools came up with. In the case of Gobles, they painted the plow blade with tiger eyes. As the contest winners, they’ll now get a pizza party, set for December 3.
Witkowski says you may see some of the painted plow blades in action this winter if they’re needed.
