Almost two dozen state representatives are demanding a Michigan Department of Natural Resources investigation into why a beloved elk was euthanized in October.
Roger the Elk was a staple of the community in Rogers City near Cheboygan. The DNR says Roger was put down after acting aggressive around people.
State Representative Cam Cavitt says residents deserve to know more about the situation.
“What happened to the food? You know, there’s a lot of high protein meat in an elk,” Cavitt said. “You’re talking probably 700 to 800 pounds. And we got a lot of food security in Michigan. Did that elk go into a food bank?”
The Rogers City Council has also passed a resolution asking for more transparency.
