Work could soon begin on a project in Lincoln Township to help maintain safe pedestrian access to the Meijer on Red Arrow Highway and other nearby businesses.

At this week’s meeting of the Lincoln Township Board of Trustees, consultant Brandon Mieras of Williams & Works said a contractor has been found to work on a sidewalk on the west side of the road across from the Meijer. He told us more.

“It’s 320 feet of sidewalk to bridge a gap between the crossing at the Meijer by the gas station and the proposed sidewalk that’s going out in front of the Drive & Sine,” Mieras said. “So part of that, they’re putting sidewalk in front of their property limits, but there’s a gap of 320 feet that we’re hoping to plug.”

Mieras said the Drive & Shine, to be located on the site of the former 5 O’clock Sports Bar, is expected to put in a sidewalk in front of its property.

The township’s project will only cost about $50,000, but trustees want a contract in place by the end of the year so federal ARPA dollars can be used for it. Under the terms of the American Rescue Plan, those funds must be committed by the end of the year or they have to be given back.

The actual construction might not be until next year.
