Freddie Freeman homered for the third straight game and Walker Buehler pitched another World Series gem as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the New York Yankees 4-2 for a 3-0 lead in the Fall Classic. With superstar Shohei Ohtani playing despite a partially dislocated left shoulder, Los Angeles moved within one victory of a surprising sweep in this much-hyped matchup between traditional powers. Buehler and six relievers combined on a five-hitter for the Dodgers, who are on the cusp of their second championship in five years and the eighth in franchise history.

Instead of closing in on title No. 28, the New York Yankees are on the verge of getting swept in the World Series for just the fourth time. Aaron Judge again looked lost at the plate, starting pitching faltered for the second straight game and the Yankees dropped into a 3-0 Series deficit with a 4-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Judge is 1 for 12 with no RBIs and seven strikeouts in the Series and is hitting .140 with 20 strikeouts in this postseason. He is down to a .196 average with 15 homers, 31 RBIs and 86 strikeouts in his postseason career.

Steelers 26, Giants 18 – Calvin Austin III scores twice as the Steelers hold off the Giants 26-18
Calvin Austin III returned a punt for a touchdown and hauled in a lob by Russell Wilson for another score as the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the New York Giants 26-18. Austin raced across the field before sprinting down the sideline for a 73-yard touchdown in the third quarter that gave the Steelers the lead for good. He added a 29-yard over-the-shoulder grab from Wilson early in the fourth as Pittsburgh won its 22nd straight home game under the Monday night lights. NFL – Lions won’t always find it as easy as they did against the Titans
Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell is acknowledging that his team’s 52-14 victory over the Tennessee Titans was a strange game. The offense put up 52 points while only gaining 225 yards — 185 fewer than the Lions’ season average. But Jared Goff didn’t play poorly. The Lions just didn’t have to go on many long drives in order to reach the end zone because their special teams kept setting them up with short fields. Campbell says it’s “not realistic” to get that kind of special teams performance, but he credits his team for taking advantage.

NFL – Bears need to make sure a brutal loss doesn’t lead to a lost season
The Chicago Bears need to make sure one gut-wrenching loss doesn’t snowball into a lost season. A team that rolled into its bye with three straight wins is now reeling after falling 18-15 on a Hail Mary touchdown at Washington on Sunday. Between the offense’s inability to get going until late in the game, some head-scratching play calls and one huge mental lapse by cornerback Tyrique Stevenson at the end, it all added up to one rough afternoon. Caleb Williams and the offense struggled for most of the game before finding a rhythm. The fact Chicago came out flat plus some play calls that backfired put the coaching staff in the spotlight.

NCAAFB – Michigan State AD asks Big Ten to investigate postgame scuffle with Michigan
Michigan State athletic director Alan Haller has requested that the Big Ten review what happened in the postgame altercation on the field at the end of Saturday’s loss at Michigan. Haller said he called the Big Ten commissioner immediately after the game and believes the sportsmanship policy should be applied. Michigan tight end Colston Loveland and Michigan State defensive end Anthony Jones pushed, shoved and butted helmets, triggering a skirmish with the rivals throwing punches as the final seconds ticked off the clock. Michigan players left the nearby sideline to join the scrum and Michigan State players rushed over to join the fray.

NCAAFB – Penn State could be without QB Drew Allar for showdown with Ohio State
Penn State coach James Franklin isn’t sure if starting quarterback Drew Allar will be ready to play when the No. 3 Nittany Lions host No. 4 Ohio State. Allar suffered an apparent left knee injury late in the first half of Penn State’s 28-13 win over Wisconsin. Allar returned for the second half wearing a knee brace, but after a short, ineffective warm-up, yielded the offense to Beau Pribula. Allar has completed 117 of 164 passes for 1,640 yards with 12 touchdowns and four interceptions this year. He hasn’t missed a game yet since taking over the starting job at the start of 2023.

NCAAFB – Cignetti ‘optimistic’ QB Kurtis Rourke will start against Michigan State
Indiana coach Curt Cignetti says he’s “optimistic” starting quarterback Kurtis Rourke will return to the lineup Saturday against Michigan State. Rourke won each of his first seven starts with the Hoosiers before sitting out last weekend’s 31-17 victory over Washington with a right thumb injury. Tayven Jackson replaced Rourke in the lineup and led Indiana to its first 8-0 record since the 1967 Rose Bowl team. Rourke had thumb surgery last Monday but Cignetti says he’s been throwing at Hoosiers practices since late last week. If the Hoosiers reclaim the Old Brass Spittoon from the Spartans, they will have the first 9-0 mark in school history.

WNBA – Stephanie White out as Connecticut coach, the 7th WNBA coach this offseason
The Connecticut Sun is parting ways with Stephanie White. White led the Sun to the WNBA semifinals both of her seasons as coach. The Sun finished third in the regular season with a 28-12 record, swept Indiana in the first round of the playoffs and lost a five-game semifinal series to Minnesota. The Sun are the seventh WNBA team to make a coaching change, and the announcement came a day after the Indiana Fever fired Christie Sides. White led the Sun to a franchise-best 27-13 record in her first season and was named 2023 WNBA Coach of the Year.
