With two weeks until Michigan’s November 5 General Election, more than 1.15 million Michigan voters — almost 16% of the state’s active registered voters — have already cast their ballots.

The Michigan Secretary of State’s office says a total of 5,100 Michiganders voted at an in-person early voting site, including a record-breaking 2,504 voters in Detroit the first weekend, and more than 1.14 million Michigan voters have submitted an absentee ballot already.

The number of absentee ballots sent out and returned this year rivals the number at this time in 2020, when the nation mostly voted from home due to COVID.

The City of Detroit this year was the first jurisdiction in the state to start early voting for the election, kicking off this past Saturday, while early in-person voting in most places around the state will start this coming Saturday. That includes in Southwest Michigan.

Check your county clerk’s website to find out the schedule and location for early in-person voting. Or, if you’re old-fashioned, just show up to your local polling place to vote on Election Day, November 5. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. that day.
