The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after an elderly woman was scammed out of $16,000 earlier this year.

The department says the victim was tricked into believing she needed to post a $16,000 bond for her son and delivered the cash to a suspect at the U-Haul location in Byron Center back in May. The sheriff’s department has obtained surveillance video of the transaction thanks to Michigan State Police and released photos of the suspect. You can see them below.

Police remind everyone not to fall for scams in which a caller claims to need cash immediately.
