Michigan Works is looking for some apprentices to be honored as part of National Apprenticeship Week next month.

Spokesperson Mary Morphey tells us from November 17 to November 23, Michigan Works will celebrate the impact the region’s many apprentices have had on the community. It’s taking nominations for five current or alumni apprentices to receive awards.

Awardees will be selected by a panel of experienced workforce development folks who specialize in registered apprenticeships,” Morphey said,. “The five selected individuals will receive a certificate of recognition and will be featured in the National Apprenticeship Week communications, on social media, and on the Michigan Works website.”

Morphey says nominees must live in Berrien, Cass, or Van Buren counties, have proof they served in a registered USDOL apprenticeship, and must submit a statement and a photo.

Morphey says apprenticeships are useful to employers because they help them gain skilled workers who are often loyal. Apprenticeships are good for workers because they pay a person as they learn new skills.

Nominations for Apprenticeship Week will be taken through the end of October 27, and you can learn more might here.
