A community in Macomb County has again been awarded the honor of safest big city in Michigan.

Sterling Heights is celebrating the accomplishment, based on FBI crime statistics for Michigan cities with populations over 100,000. Sterling Heights Police Department Captain Mario Bastianelli says the department’s partnership with residents is the reason this happened.

Obviously, our number one mission is keeping our community, our citizens, our businesses, keeping them all safe and having a great relationship with our community, really going above and beyond in regards to community policing and having, it’s a joint partnership, right?”

86% of Sterling Heights residents are satisfied with the work being done by police.
