If you’re thinking about adopting a new pet, October is a good time to do it.
For the first two weeks of the month, the Bissell Pet Foundation will sponsor a Fall National Empty the Shelters with 39 shelters in Michigan taking part. Cathy Bissell is the founder of the Bissell Pet Foundation, based in Grand Rapids.
“Shelters are really full right now and we need people to go and either adopt or foster or even offer a hand somehow walking dogs, doing laundry, whatever it takes because the there’s so many highly desirable pets in the shelter system right now a lot of people have had to give up their own pets,” Bissell said.
Bissell says they’ll sponsor reduced adoption fees in 43 states. You can get more information at BissellPetFoundation.org.
