The city of South Haven has appointed a new interim police chief.

Sergeant Patrick Carlotto will serve as the new chief until a permanent selection is appointed. Carlotto takes over as current Police Chief Natalie Thompson works her way toward retirement.

The sergeant says he’s hoping to become the permanent police chief.

“I have been part of the community and acted with the community for a long time,” Carlotto said. “South Haven is a nice city and I have a vested interest of keeping it safe and secure.”

The city of South Haven is taking applications for the position of until October 2. After interviews, the city will appoint the new permanent chief around January or February of next year.
