Lake Michigan College has joined forces with Berrien RESA, the Greater Niles Chamber of Commerce, and the Southwest Michigan Regional Chamber to promote apprenticeships for high school graduates.

The partners say through the Berrien Talent Collaborative, students will be offered the chance to receive training and secure local job opportunities. LMC’s Al Pscholka toldus more.

We provide training for folks to make sure that they’ve got the right standards, that those standards are met for employers, along with making those connections between business and the schools,” Pscholka said.

Students will receive on the job training as part of their curriculum and become paid employees. LMC would provide the training.

It has been noted that generally 95% of apprentices stay with their employers long-term. Pscholka says the biggest goal of the collaborative is to keep Southwest Michigan students here in Southwest Michigan.
