A 78-year-old Lawton man is dead after being struck by a vehicle in Antwerp Township on Sunday.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department says the crash happened on County Road 657 near Two Oaks Circle around 4:20 a.m.

The investigation found the 78-year-old was walking in the road when he was hit by a northbound car. The man was not wearing reflecting clothing and deputies say it appears he was well into the traffic lane when struck. He died at the scene.

Police say the driver of the vehicle is cooperating and the investigation is ongoing.

The crash closed County Road 657 between 62nd Avenue and Drape Road for about four hours.
