Summer tourism is wrapping up in Michigan, but fall travel is quickly getting popular and is projected to attract a lot of visitors to the state.

AARP Travel Director Steve Guilday says taking a vacation in the fall means smaller crowds, cheaper prices, and more comfortable weather. He says there are plenty of reason to hit the road in the fall.

“There is the weather to consider, depending on where you’re headed, some would argue, fall and winter, perhaps better weather, beat the heat a little bit,” Guilday said. “And the final one — and it’s probably the one people are hoping the most to hear about — is the ability to have your dollar go a little bit further this time of year than it does at the peak of summer.”

Guilday says some of the best things to do up north in the next couple months include fall color viewing, hiking and biking, visiting orchards, and end-of-season golf.
