The Berrien County Democratic Party is uniting behind Vice President Kamala Harris as endorsements for her rise.

Berrien County Democratic Party Chair Amy Scrima tells us she’s been hearing from Democrats around the county who are energized and looking to help now that President Joe Biden has stepped aside in the race for the White House. She said they have a lot of gratitude for Biden.

“We are looking forward to another four years of continued progress in all the areas that Democrats are best positioned to provide progress in, nothing but thankful for everything that President Biden has done for us as a country.”

Scrima says there was no doubt Berrien County Democrats would back Harris as support mounted for the vice president on Sunday. She says the state party is backing Harris, Governor Gretchen Whitmer is backing Harris, and locally, Democrats are ready to get to work.

“We obviously are a county party, so we’re focused on electing our county candidates. We have more than 50 candidates running in Berrien County as the Democratic ticket, and we’re very excited about our ability to bring Democratic values across the county.”

Scrima does believe Harris will have coattails on which local Democratic candidates could ride in November. She also believes Harris can continue economic momentum started by the Biden administration while protecting the environment and women’s rights.
