ABC/Randy HolmesBilly Corgan wants to take a page out of Bruce Springsteen‘s book and take his solo show to Broadway.

The Smashing Pumpkins frontman is currently on an acoustic tour in support of his forthcoming solo album Cotillions, and a recent concert in Kentucky has made him rethink his approach to live shows.

During his show in New York City Wednesday, his third in a three-date run at the Big Apple’s Gramercy Theatre, Corgan explained that the Kentucky performance was marred by some rude fans who talked during the songs and shouted out references to his infamous “shapeshifter” story during quiet moments.

“That night…as we were on the road out of Kentucky, I decided, ‘That’s it, I’m not doing any more acoustic tours,'” he told the NYC crowd.

However, after his three Gramercy shows, Corgan realized that he didn’t want to quit playing unplugged solo dates, but they did need the right kind of venue.

“The vision I have is to come back and play Broadway,” Corgan said to the cheering crowd. “That’s the right context.”

“People want to be there, not because they want to hear ‘Rat in a Cage 2,'” he continued, referencing the Pumpkins hit “Bullet with Butterfly Wings.” “It’s ’cause they wanna go on journeys like this one.”

Wednesday’s show was the last scheduled date on Corgan’s solo tour. Cotillions, the follow-up to 2017’s Ogilala, arrives this Friday.
