ABC/Randy HolmesTMZ reports that, according to sources close to Eddie Van Halen, the legendary guitarist spent a few days in the hospital this past week because he experienced complications from the cancer treatments he’s been undergoing.

TMZ says sources told them that Van Halen was released from the hospital on Sunday and is doing fine now, while claiming that he was hospitalized last week after suffering intestinal issues and abdominal pain, which were said to be caused by a bad reaction to the drugs he’s taking to treat his throat cancer.

According to TMZ’s sources, after returning home, Eddie hung out and rehearsed music with his son, Wolfgang, who’s played bass in his dad’s famous band since 2006.

Last month, TMZ broke the news that for the past five years, Eddie has been flying to Germany to receive radiation treatment for throat cancer. According to the news website, the  64-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer was diagnosed with cancer almost 20 years ago and in 2000, doctors removed a third of his tongue due to the illness.

TMZ says that although Eddie was a heavy smoker, he says he was told that the cancer may have developed as a result of holding a metal guitar pick in his mouth while he performed.
