Ramblin’ Man: Live at The St. George Theatre, a new concert album and video documenting a July 2018 performance by founding Allman Brothers Band singer/guitarist Dickey Betts‘ solo group in Staten Island, New York, hits stores today.
The show was among several that the Dickey Betts Band played last year that marked the end of a three-year retirement for the veteran Southern rocker. Unfortunately, multiple health issues sidelined Betts once again later in 2018.
A trailer for the video is streaming now on Dickey’s official YouTube channel, along with a clip of the group playing the Betts-penned Allman Brothers hit, “Ramblin’ Man.”
The trailer includes interview segments with some of the Dickey Betts Band members, including Dickey’s son, Duane, who played guitar with the group.
“It’s really gratifying to be able to play with my father onstage again,” Duane says. “You know, I think he’s one of the greatest guitarists of all time.”
Duane also notes that he and the other members of his father’s band “all love each other so much, and it’s a really great group of musicians.” He adds, “Whenever any of us get to play with my dad it’s a great, cherished experience.”
Other tunes Betts and his band played at the show included Allman Brothers classics like “Blue Sky,” “Midnight Rider,” “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed,” “Whipping Post,” and “Jessica.”
The rendition of “Midnight Rider” featured guest vocals by the late Gregg Allman‘s son, Devon, who now plays with Duane Betts in the Allman Betts Band.
Ramblin’ Man: Live at The St. George Theatre is available as a CD/Blu-ray set and a two-LP vinyl collection. The audio versions of the release feature seven songs, while the video boasts three additional performances.
