Older Michiganders say their work affects their mental health in a positive way.

A new poll from the University of Michigan has found those in our state who are working past 65 are more likely to have positive effects on their physical and mental health. Poll director Dr. Jeff Kullgren says it also impacts their overall well-being.

We found, for example, that nearly half of people who were working and were 50 and older reported that working keeps their brain sharp, helps them maintain, and about a third of people said it helps them maintain social connections,” Kullgren said.

81% of working Michiganders said their work affects their mental health in a positive way. Compare that to the American average of 71%.
