This week’s snowstorm is forecast to be one of the biggest so far this year, and health leaders are warning about shoveling and cardiac arrest.
Dr. Barry Franklin with Corewell Health has tips to stay safe.
“Push the snow rather than lifting and throwing heavy loads,” Franklin said. “Take a work-rest approach. Work for five minutes, rest, work for five minutes, rest, and don’t try to do the whole driveway all at one time.”
Franklin says just 10 minutes of shoveling heavy snow elevates heart rates to levels seen during intense treadmill testing.
