Roddy Gayle Jr. scored 14 for the Wolverines (19-5, 11-2 Big Ten) while Tre Donaldson and Vladimir Goldin scored 12 apiece. The Boilermakers (19-6, 11-3) were led by Braden Smith with a game-high 24 points, Trey Kaufman-Renn with 22 points and Fletcher Loyer with 15. The loss ended a four-game winning streak for Purdue. with Michigan State’s loss to Indiana, Michigan leads the Big Ten standings. Michigan trailed most of the night, rallying from a 48-38 deficit with 14:44 remaining with a 19-9 run to tie it on a 3-pointer by Nimari Burnett with 5:51 to go. Neither team led by more than four the rest of the way.

Malik Renea had 16 of his 19 points in the second half to help Indiana beat No. 11 Michigan State 71-67, leaving Tom Izzo on the brink of breaking Bob Knight’s Big Ten wins record. The Hoosiers had lost five straight under coach Mike Woodson, who is stepping down after the season. The Spartans lost for the third time in four games, leaving Izzo with 353 Big Ten wins that match the mark Knight set at Indiana while winning three NCAA titles. Michigan State’s Jaden Akins scored 14 and Jase Richardson had 13 points.

Nate Johnson had 22 points and Akron beat Western Michigan 105-92 on Tuesday night for its 12th straight win. Johnson had six rebounds for the Zips (19-5, 11-0 Mid-American Conference). Tavari Johnson scored 17 points while shooting 7 for 11, including 2 for 4 from beyond the arc. Amani Lyles had 15 points and finished 7 of 7 from the field. The Broncos (7-17, 4-7) were led in scoring by Chansey Willis Jr., who finished with 28 points, seven rebounds, four assists and five steals. Western Michigan also got 15 points from Javaughn Hannah. Donovan Williams also had 13 points and seven rebounds.

Ball St. 86, EMU 84 – OT – Hill leads Ball State to 86-84 OT victory against Eastern Michigan
Jermahri Hill scored 21 points and his go-ahead dunk with two seconds left in the overtime pushed Ball State past Eastern Michigan 86-84 on Tuesday night. Hill had eight rebounds and seven assists for the Cardinals (12-12, 5-6 Mid-American Conference). Payton Sparks shot 5 of 7 from the field and 9 of 11 from the free-throw line to add 19 points. Jeremiah Hernandez shot 5 for 9 (1 for 3 from 3-point range) and 7 of 8 from the free-throw line to finish with 18 points. Jalen Terry led the Eagles (11-13, 4-7) in scoring, finishing with 25 points, five assists and three steals. Eastern Michigan also got 18 points and three steals from Christian Henry. Da’Sean Nelson finished with 17 points, six rebounds and eight assists.

Marquis Barnett helped lead Kent State over Central Michigan on Tuesday night with 28 points off of the bench in a 91-83 victory. Barnett shot 10 for 13, including 6 for 8 from beyond the arc for the Golden Flashes (16-8, 6-5 Mid-American Conference). VonCameron Davis scored 21 points, shooting 7 for 13 (4 for 5 from 3-point range) and 3 of 3 from the free-throw line. Jalen Sullinger went 7 of 13 from the field (4 for 8 from 3-point range) to finish with 19 points. The Chippewas (11-13, 4-7) were led by Ugnius Jarusevicius, who recorded 32 points, 10 rebounds and two steals. Anthony Pritchard added 18 points and eight assists for Central Michigan. Jakobi Heady finished with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Malik Beasley made seven 3-pointers and finished with 24 points, and the Detroit Pistons built a franchise-record, 42-point halftime lead on the way to a 132-92 romp over the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday night. Detroit outscored the Bulls 71-29 in the first half, eclipsing the previous mark of 34 points against Chicago on March 23, 1969. Beasley set a Detroit record for 3-pointers in a season with 212 after making 7 of 10. Cade Cunningham added 20 points as the Pistons came away with their most lopsided win of the season. The Bulls set a team record by missing their first 20 3-pointers and were 10 of 47 from beyond the arc.

Knicks 128, Pacers 115 – Karl-Anthony Towns scores 40 and Josh Hart has 30 to lead Knicks past Pacers 128-115
Karl-Anthony Towns had 40 points and 12 rebounds, and Josh Hart added 30 points and 10 rebounds to lead the New York Knicks past the Indiana Pacers 128-115. New York has won three of its last four, earning its first victory in Indianapolis since April 2023. Three-time All-Star Pascal Siakam led Indiana with 24 points. Thomas Bryant started in place of the injured Myles Turner and had 18 points and nine rebounds. Bennedict Mathurin also had 18 points. But the Pacers never led after New York swung the game with a 10-0 second quarter run that allowed the Knicks to take a 68-60 halftime lead.

NFL – Eagles’ offensive coordinator Kellen Moore will become the Saints head coach
Kellen Moore is leaving the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles for his first NFL head coaching job with the New Orleans Saints. The 36-year-old Moore will join a Saints organization that’s been floundering since the retirement of quarterback Drew Brees and departure of Super Bowl-winning coach Sean Payton. The Saints haven’t made the playoffs since the 2020 season. Moore has been an offensive coordinator for six seasons with Dallas, the Los Angeles Charges and the Eagles. The Saints fired third-year coach Dennis Allen this past season with the team at 5-12. Moore oversaw the second-ranked rushing offense in the NFL while playing to the strengths of star running back Saquon Barkley and a big offensive line.

Dept of Education asks NCAA, high schools to erase records set by transgender athletes
The Department of Education has taken another step in advancing the Trump administration’s new transgender policy for sports by asking the NCAA and a key high-school sports organization to restore titles, awards and records it says have been “misappropriated by biological males competing in female categories.” The department sent a letter requesting the changes to the National Federation of State High School Associations and the NCAA. The NCAA changed its participation policy to restrict competition in women’s sports to athletes who were assigned female at birth a day after President Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at banning transgender athletes from women’s and girls sports.

Monty the giant schnauzer wins Westminster dog show
A giant schnauzer named Monty has won the top prize at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show. Monty bested six other finalists to take best in show Tuesday night at New York’s Madison Square Garden. The award is considered the most prestigious prize in the U.S. dog show world. Each dog is judged according to how closely it matches the ideal for its breed. Winners get a trophy, ribbons and bragging rights, but no cash prize.
