President Donald Trump is reportedly preparing to follow through on his campaign promise to eliminate the U.S. Department of Education.
Politico reports an executive order is being drafted that would dismantle the department. Michigan Education Association spokesperson Thomas Morgan says this would have widespread ramifications here in Michigan.
“If the U.S. Department of Education were to be eliminated, we would be leaving kids with special needs to fend for themselves, essentially,” Morgan said. “We would be leaving students in rural and urban districts without the resources they need. So this would devastate students across the state in suburban schools, in urban schools, and in rural schools.”
Getting rid of a federal agency would require an act of Congress.
