Lawmakers have added safeguards to the state budget.

House Republicans proposed a resolution this week that would require any legislation-directed project to fully disclosure any request for funding. State Representative Ann Bollin from Brighton Township says she wants to know how the money would be spent before we actually give it out.

What are the requests? Do they provide a public benefit? Are they good use of taxpayer money? Do we have an overall problem across the state with something that maybe needs greater attention? I’m sure that we will have programs that are identified that maybe there are multiple requests and they’re actually have been funded in the past and they’re duplicative projects.”

Bollin says too much money is being handed out behind closed doors and on earmarked projects that don’t actually benefit the public.

In a unanimous 105-to-nothing vote, the Michigan House adopted the resolution.
