The position of township treasurer in Hagar Township is in limbo after the resignation of Kim LaSata from the post last week.

Hagar Township Supervisor Izzy DiMaggio tells us LaSata resigned during a meeting of the township board of trustees, but she hasn’t yet submitted a formal resignation letter. This means she is still technically the treasurer, although she hasn’t been on the job.

DiMaggio says the deputy treasurer is performing all of the treasurer’s duties now.

We did, in fact, offer the position to the deputy, who’s been here for about three years and has been doing a great job for us,” DiMaggio said. “So we did offer the position. We did vote and approve to hire the deputy as the treasurer.”

DiMaggio says Deputy Treasurer Kay Ohst knows the ropes, but being the only one in the office has been a problem for her.

We gotta get her some help because she can’t leave the office to go make bank deposits for taxes and so forth because somebody’s got to stay in that treasurer’s office to accept payments. We have people coming in every day, so our deputy is doing all the work right now.”

DiMaggio says he sent LaSata a friendly email to ask for her resignation in writing so she can be replaced, but he hadn’t received it as of Friday. He says it’s nothing personal and he wishes LaSata well.

LaSata resigned during a township board meeting after the board voted to approve pay increases for clerk, supervisor, and trustees, but not for the treasurer. She told us last week all of the men on the board received raises, but not her, the only woman.
