More high schools in Michigan are using artificial turf fields, despite the injury risk.

The Michigan High School Athletic Association is reporting 100 high schools are now playing on those types of fields.

AstroTurf is one of the largest installers in the state. All but two sites for the high school football playoffs use their field.

A study by the University Hospital Sports Medicine Institute reveals athletes were 58% more likely to get hurt on artificial turf compared to natural surfaces like grass. The study was conducted during Michigan’s 2017-18 athletic season.
