“Historically large” lake effect snow events are about to push snow totals in Northern Michigan into the triple digits.

It’s not record-breaking territory, but National Weather Service meteorologist Andy Sullivan expects the Gaylord totals to reach 100 inches for the seasonal snowfall within the next few days.

We had 94 inches as of yesterday morning,” Sullivan said. “The normal is 59, so we’re 159% of normal. But we don’t expect this pace to continue through the whole winter. But if it did, we’d be well, well over 200 inches.”

Sullivan says it’s been crazy, but it’s also been warm in between, so the snow melts. That’s made for a weird winter up north.
