South Haven is all set to ring in the New Year with its annual New Year’s Eve Celebration happening tonight.

Director of the South Haven Van Buren County Convention and Visitors Bureau Jennifer Sistrunk shares that this unique event will take place in the downtown streets, ending with a fireworks show.

“We try to cater to all demographics,” Sistrunk says. “We have the New Year’s Eve event at the Children’s Children Museum, the South Haven Center for the Arts has an early beach ball drop. We’ve got Michigan Autobots that are coming that the kids really, really love. So there’s really something for everybody. I would say bring everyone.”

The festivities begin at 3 p.m. and will feature a scavenger hunt, a mechanical bull ride sponsored by Big Blue Vacation Rentals, live performances, and a creative twist on the traditional ball drop.

“We drop a thousand beach balls at midnight,” Sistrunk says. “There are a lot of traditional ball drops, but we drop a thousand beach balls, which is very unique. Everything is downtown. Everything is very walkable. We have a fantastic firework show that is pretty unique to our area.”

Additionally, downtown businesses will be offering special promotions and giveaways throughout the event. There are public parking lots available, and a trolley service will run from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. to transport visitors downtown.
