The first phase of the I-94 reconstruction project has been completed, and the Michigan Department of Transportation is gearing up for next year’s portion.

MDOT spokesperson Nick Schirripa shared that in 2025, the focus will be on rebuilding the westbound lanes of I-94.

“We’re going to finish the westbound ramps up at exit twenty three,” Schirripa says. “Then we’ll be rebuilding westbound I-94 from Empire to Lincoln and then in 2026 will be the eastbound side

Schirripa tells us that during the work, two lanes will remain open in each direction, with traffic on Pipestone Road being redirected to M-139 and Napier Avenue.

“That’s kind of the next phase coming up, starting sometime in March,” Schirripa says. “I’m guessing mid-late March.”

The entire project is set to finish in 2026, which will include the reconstruction of the eastbound lanes and the bridge over Pipestone Road.
