A Detroit native who lost his life during the attack on Pearl Harbor will be laid to rest Friday after his remains were missing for decades.

John Auld was aboard the USS Oklahoma when the attack took place. His remains were identified by the military in 2018, and he’ll now be buried in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Auld’s nephew, Richard, says the ceremony will have full military honors and he will be given the flag on his casket.

“What little family I have will be there and some friends, and it’s just going to be an intimate little gathering,” Richard said.

Saturday is the 83rd anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
