UPDATE at 9:57 am ET — Michigan Department of Transportation reports in Berrien County, the left lanes of both Eastbound and Westbound lanes of I-94 at BUS I-94 (Red Arrow Hwy) Exit 23 are blocked due to a crash. Other lanes in that area are now reported open in both directions.

In Van Buren County at Eastbound I-94 at Mattawan Exit 66, the freeway is closed due to a crash.

Also in Van Buren County, Northbound I-196 after Covert Exit 13, authorities report all lanes blocked due to a crash. (New as of 9:37 am)

Authorities report a number of roadways are plagued by slide-offs and crashes due to the slick conditions and poor visibility.

Currently, high winds and blowing snow have resulted in treacherous travel conditions in and around Southwest Michigan, as well as fallen trees and downed powerlines.

Some regional law enforcement have recommended avoiding operating vehicles on the roadways unless absolutely necessary until road commission crews can clear the roadways or the weather begins to improve.
