With the holiday season just around the corner, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department is reminding drivers not to drink and drive.
Sheriff Chuck Heit tells us from Dec. 13 to Jan 1, law enforcement will be on the lookout for drunk or impaired drivers during the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.
“We have seen a decrease over the years and we want to continue that,” Heit says. “Education is a big part of that as well. So just putting that reminder out there to make a plan if you’ve got holiday functions, family functions, you know you’re going to be drinking alcohol to make sure you’ve got a plan for who’s driving and just keeping our community safe.”
In Michigan it is illegal to drive with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher. If you find yourself drinking, don’t get behind the wheel and look for alternatives to get home safe.
“If you find yourself in that situation, obviously reach out to friends, family, or other options of driving. The biggest thing is to make that decision ahead of time, because sometimes after someone’s been drinking, they don’t necessarily make the best decisions.”
Officers will be on the lookout for motorists under the influence of drugs and or alcohol.
