Firefighters from six departments responded to a Monday night blaze in a two-story complex at the Picture Lake Apartments on 62nd Street south of County Road 388 in Geneva Township in Van Buren County.

Officials from the South Haven Area Emergency Services say that just after 6:00 p.m. Monday, a fire was reported in an unoccupied apartment. The fire then spread to the attic area to additional units.

Residents safely evacuated the building, but firefighters had to negotiate deep snow to address the fire. Fire officials report water had to be shuttled to the scene from a nearby pond at GingerMan Raceway.

The American Red Cross was called to assist displaced residents. No word yet on the cause of the fire.
