Among those breathing a sigh of relief now that a new insurance carrier has been found for Benton Harbor’s Dial A Ride service is Lake Michigan College.

LMC Vice President of Enrollment, Marketing, and Government Relations Al Pscholka addressed the TCATA Board Tuesday after it approved the new policy that will keep Dial A Ride vehicles on the road. He said the college has been watching the situation closely as the deadline loomed.

Pscholka told us many LMC students were concerned they wouldn’t be able to get to class if Dial A Ride service ended.

A huge concern of the college because we’ve got up to a hundred students, occasionally some staff members who do use the service,” Pscholka said. “We’ve got finals coming up and at Lake Michigan College, the biggest thing is student success. So we go out of our way to try to avoid barriers, and this was a possible barrier.”

Pscholka says LMC was considering contingency plans to help the affected students if Dial A Ride services were to stop December 2.

Pscholka asked TCATA leaders to communicate with users that there will be no interruption of service now that the situation has been at least temporarily resolved.

The deadline for Dial A Ride to be covered by a new policy was December 2.
