Lake Michigan College is planning a Law Enforcement Hiring Fair for next month.
LMC Police Academy Director Brad Byerle tells us anyone interested in a law enforcement career can come out and meet directly with police departments that are hiring.
“I’ve invited all local departments that I’ve contacted information for, which covers most of Berrien County, Cass County, and then some of Van Buren County,” Byerle said. “I think we’ve had somewhere around 12 confirmed so far that they would be there.”
Byerle says all of the recruits that enrolled at the LMC Police Academy this year were already hired by police departments. So, this event will be a chance for someone to get their foot in the door.
Police departments will often pay for a recruit’s education at the academy. Byerle says come to the fair ready for an interview.
“If they really want to be considered for a position in law enforcement, they should come dressed professionally, just like you would for a job interview and they should bring a resume with them and be prepared to answer some questions.”
Byerle says police departments from Benton Harbor, Benton Township, Berrien Springs, Niles, and St. Joseph will be there, along with the sheriff’s departments from Berrien, Cass, and Allegan counties.
The fair will be December 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Hanson Technology Center on LMC’s Benton Harbor campus.
