A suspect has been arrested in a string of armed robberies at retail locations around Berrien County.
The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department says most of the businesses hit have been Dollar General stores.
Armed robberies were reported at the Dollar General stores in Berrien Springs, St. Joseph, Benton Harbor, and then Berrien Springs again between June 25 and October 10. Also, the BP station on Old 31 in Berrien Springs was robbed just this Thursday. The sheriff’s department says suspect Edward Turner was arrested the same day. Search warrants were executed at his home and police say they turned up evidence related to the robberies, including a firearm.
Turner has now been arraigned in Fifth District Court on four counts of armed robbery, four counts of felony firearm, and four counts of being a felon in possession of a gun. He’s being held at the Berrien County Jail with bond set at $250,000.
The sheriff’s department thanks the public for tips that helped lead to the arrest.
