Boredom, relaxation, and experimentation are among top reasons teens vape.
A new study by the University of Michigan found that vaping has become the primary way that kids use nicotine. Yvonne Terry-McElrath is the lead of data analysis for the study.
“Our studies showed that among 12th graders who were vaping daily, more than 20% said they were vaping because they were hooked,” McElrath said. “This isn’t a low-risk activity, even though it might be marketed that way.”
McElrath says understanding why teens vape is important to figuring out how to cut down or prevent nicotine use all together.
