Firearm deer seasons opens on Friday in Michigan, and not a moment too soon as crashes involving deer are continuing an an alarming pace.

We’re seeing more than 360 car deer crashes every day in Michigan with some two million deer in the state. Michigan United Conservation Club CEO Amy Trotter told us why we’re seeing so many crashes.

“Because deer are moving around,” Trotter said. “This is the rut. So, bucks are actively chasing does and they’re moving around. They’re getting a lot more mobile during those dawn and dusk time periods. And there’s hunters in the woods too, taking to the woods. So that’s naturally moving deer around as well.”

If you hit a deer, Trotter says call a hunter so the deer can be salvaged. She also says don’t veer for deer.
