Michigan Works has opened a new office at the New Heights CCDA Laundry Hub in Benton Heights.
The Laundry Hub, at 2121 Red Arrow Highway, opened to the public this year, providing residents of Benton Heights a community center and a state-of-the-art place to do their laundry. One of the goals of New Heights CCDA was to offer social services at the hub, and the new Michigan Works office has been operational there for a couple of months now.
Michigan Works Vice President of Workforce Development Paul Kirk told us what kinds of services the organization is offering at the Laundry Hub location.
“It will be the same type of services that we offer at Benton Harbor in our Cass and our Paw Paw locations,” Kirk said. “It will allow folks to register for unemployment and also look at job search opportunities, resume’ development, energy skill development.”
Kirk says Michigan Works has already established working relationships with Benton Heights residents through its office at the Laundry Hub. Anyone can stop by on Wednesdays between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to receive Michigan Works support. They can also make an appointment by calling the Michigan Works office in Benton Harbor.
Kirk says having the office at the Laundry Hub enables Michigan Works to alleviate barriers to help that some Benton Heights residents may have faced — namely, transportation challenges. He notes this is just one of several ways New Heights CCDA and Michigan Works have worked together.
