Benton Harbor basketball games will have a new look this year as the Benton Harbor High School unveiled its new gym floor on Wednesday. The brand new court, named after the legendary Coach Paul Wilhite, is the first time in 70 years that the high school has received a new floor.

Men’s basketball coach Corey Sterling says Coach Wilhite was very deserving of this honor.

“It just shows that hard work can be rewarded,” Sterling says. “This is the ultimate honor I think for a coach, along with being inducted in the Hall of Fame, which Coach Wilhite already is. Coach Wilhite is a Michigan high school basketball coach of the year and it’s important for your hometown to honor your legends.”

High school principal Leonard Morant stated he’s excited for the students to have something new for the season.

“It’s definitely deserving for them to see something like this, and it’s the talk of the school,” Morant says. “I’m excited to see them out there and enjoy themselves. I ask the community to come out and support.”

On December 16 during the game against St. Joseph, the school will honor Wilhite and celebrate the gym floor opening.
