Democrat Elissa Slotkin narrowly beat Republican Mike Rogers to win Michigan’s open Senate seat this week.

The seat is currently held by Debbie Stabenow, but she’s retiring. The race was one of the nation’s most competitive.

Slotkin hopes to be part of a future of bipartisanship in Washington.

We all know that it’s been a tough election season and a number of years before that,” Slotkin said. “I believe in my bones that America is at its best when we have two healthy parties that push and pull and debate on issues of policy.”

Rogers congratulated Slotkin. In a statement, he wished her the best as she takes over the seat.
